Taking its cues from the substantial knitted Cowichan sweaters of the Coast Salish peoples of British Columbia, this cardigan is built around warmth, hard-wearing construction and a certain simplicity of purpose.

It is knitted from a thick, worsted-spun woollen yarn in a natural shade that recalls undyed fleece. A shawl collar, raglan sleeves and sturdy two-way zip give it the feel of a proper outer layer, while twin front pockets and a motif at the cuffs and hem provide the finishing details. An easy piece to throw on when the temperature drops.

The Cowichan sweater has earned something of a cult following in popular culture. It’s been worn by the likes of Steve McQueen, David Starsky and, of course, Jeffrey Lebowski.
