Indigo and Ecru Breton T-Shirt

Once the uniform of French sailors, later taken up by artists and free-thinkers along the Rive Gauche, the Breton shirt, or marinière, has long since settled into everyday dress. Our version is cut from a smooth cotton jersey, with familiar horizontal stripes and a relaxed, easy shape.

The collar band and gussets borrow from workshop smocks, simple over-garments worn in studios to protect clothing from paint or clay, adding a quiet note of utility to an otherwise classic piece.
