Long the preserve of hard workers, and a perennial favourite at Drake’s, the chore jacket receives a special, and very traditional, treatment this time around.
Indigo-dyed by hand in West Tokyo at a small family-run workshop that’s been doing things the same way for over a century, a place known for working with makers of traditional yukata since 1842. They still rely, and insist, on their own pure well water and slow, small-batch methods dictated as much by the weather as by the clock.
Each batch takes seven to ten days to complete, with production stopping entirely in winter when the indigo won’t take. The result is a rich, natural blue with subtle variations, and a jacket that softens and develops character with wear.
Cut on our classic chore block and finished with all the familiar details: riveted hardware, reinforced seams, a surfeit of pockets, it’s a straightforward staple, made exceptional by the story behind the cloth.
- Natural indigo has a habit of leaving its mark. With washing and regular wear, a small amount of colour transfer to the cotton lining may occur.
- 100% Cotton
- 12.6oz Cotton Duck Canvas
- Made in Portugal
- Traditional Indigo Dyed in Japan
- Three Outer Pockets (With Patch Ticket Pocket)
- One Inner Pocket
- Rivet Buttons
