Tokyo Style

During a Drake’s visit to Tokyo, Creative Director Michael Hill took a few laps around the streets of Omotesando—a polished stretch of retail stores, konbinis and office blocks— wearing some highlights from the autumn collection. Arriving in a typical palette of colourful checks, Madras cotton (ideal for a humid day in the city) is sourced from Chennai, where it’s home-spun by hand, before being pieced together in our Somerset workshop.
The classic Mk. I Games suit has been reworked using a heavyweight Yorkshire cotton that has been indigo dyed, giving the fabric a unique depth of colour, along with traditionally shuttle-loomed Japanese denim, and wool-silk scarves that draw inspiration from the Drake’s archive.
“Having travelled to Japan so much over the years, I feel a real connection to the country,” says Mike. “There’s a culture of craft and design here that I don’t think you can find anywhere else. Every visit is inspiring.”
