Drake’s Radio Ep. 19: Hua Hsu Takes a Walk

I aspire to be the kind of person who gets regular exercise, possibly involving tennis, but, in reality, the only thing that keeps me from a purely sedentary lifestyle is walking. To the post office, from bookstore to bookstore, in nature (when possible), to fetch food, even in the rain or snow.

I grew up in California, so driving around and listening to music with my friends was a formative experience. But I’ve spent most of my adult life in New York, and walking is probably the only thing that brings me as much pleasure now, as a break from work, as it did when I was in my twenties and thirties, when there was no better way to pass time than by wandering from one end of town to the other in search of records or clothes.

I’m sensitive to how certain songs sound at certain times of year, so these are some songs that sound good to me as winter transitions into spring. Not too cold or too hot out, so you can take your time. In a few weeks, it’ll be a different playlist, and the right time of year for Sanchez’s “One in a Million.”
